Can a reciprocating compressor be operated without a return line?

Dear seniors, can a reciprocating compressor be operated without a return line? My process does not require flow regulation, but for things like starting up and commissioning the compressor, is a return line necessary? Thank you!
It should work! Your process does not require high stability of outlet pressure; a stable inlet air supply is sufficient. Generally, installing a reflux system can protect the compressor! It automatically opens fully when the vehicle stops!
Reciprocating compressors generally come equipped with bypass control valves to prevent pressure buildup during startup.
If it is an air compressor, there is no need for a return pipeline; an exhaust valve at the outlet is sufficient. In all other cases, a return pipeline is required.
