Gentlemen, I am currently dealing with a batch of wastewater that contains calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulfate ions, and chloride ions. I want to remove the calcium and magnesium ions as much as possible at the initial stage, with the goal of obtaining sodium chloride crystals and sodium sulfate crystals in the end. Calcium and magnesium can be removed by adding sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide to form a precipitate. The rest undergoes evaporation crystallization.
Calcium and magnesium can be removed in this way, but what remains cannot be crystallized so easily; if the proportions are not correct, what results is a mixture of salts.
