I have existing 316L shell-and-tube heat exchangers with a layer of phosphate scale about 1 mm thick on their surface. I want to clean them using sulfuric acid – what concentration should be used? Thank you
Clean with sulfuric acid! If the concentration of sulfuric acid deviates, the heat exchanger may need to be discarded even after cleaning. It is recommended to consult a professional cleaning company, and it is best to avoid using sulfuric acid for cleaning whenever possible.
316L tubes are not resistant to corrosion by dilute sulfuric acid.
