Siemens has been offering the 1200/1500 PLCs for some time now, but the projects I’m working on currently seem to all use the traditional S7-200/300/400 models. I don’t know what the situation is like on site.

Here, we use 200 for small models, 300 for medium-sized ones. The latest code-packing robotic arm uses 1200; there is only one such unit. It may take some time before 1200 becomes more widely used

I’m debugging a device that uses the 1500 model; overall, it performs well and has powerful functions. Using TIA Portal for programming and configuration is indeed fast and convenient
Depending on the project, using an S7-1500+ET200SP configuration can reduce costs by almost half compared to an S7-300; this is related to the communication requirements and the number of I/O points needed for the project. Additionally, the TIA Portal software is indeed very powerful – setting up networks for the 1500, 1200 series, drives, and touchscreens is much easier than with the older STEP7 software. Therefore, the 1500 series is likely to become the standard in the future; The market share of the S7-1200 is indeed not very promising, which is related to lead times and prices; moreover, the S7-200SMART has an extremely wide market coverage.
