struggle with indecision

I have been working in instrument installation management for four years; now the company is doing poorly and is facing bankruptcy. I’m currently torn between continuing to work in chemical installation or switching to a job at a chemical plant. Have anyone who changed careers gone through something like this? I hope I can offer some suggestions. Thank you.
Chemical plants also need instrument installation and maintenance.
For repairs in chemical plants, minor issues are handled by the repair workers, while larger tasks are carried out by external contractors or companies with strong corporate backing.
In larger chemical plants, are there some technical upgrades needed in order to achieve improvement, or is it better to maintain stability?
What I’m thinking now is to settle down and switch to working in a chemical plant directly. But these past few years I’ve been working in installation management. In the past, working as a mechanic or something like that wouldn’t have been very worthwhile either
Yes, there is a gap between management and maintenance roles; perhaps even if one goes there, it won’t be possible to reach a management position right away after a few years, which is why I’m hesitant.
Well, things like work are done by professional craftsmen; I can’t do them, nor have I ever done them before. Even if I tried, I wouldn’t do it very well. I’m really stuck over this issue.
