The key here is whether your ticket (seat) has been sold again. ——Starting from the first ticket check, many begin to be checked one or two stops after exiting the station. Trains departing from the starting station can probably handle one or two stops without issue, but it’s hard to say the same for trains passing through.

I just called 12306, and the operator said that as long as the stations listed for the train ticket you purchased are those the train stops at, you can board the train. Moreover, unless you cancel the ticket, the conductor has no right to sell your seat to someone else.
