Gas shielded welding includes Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (GTAW) and Metal Inert Gas Welding (GMAW). I would like to ask: when arc welding is used as a backing process in pressure vessel manufacturing, does it refer to Tungsten Inert Gas Welding or Metal Inert Gas Welding?

I think it’s MIG welding more often. Container manufacturing already involves a lot of work; now, when automatic welding is possible, manual welding is avoided.
At present, the most common method seems to be gas tungsten arc welding, namely GTAW or TIG; it is commonly referred to as argon arc welding
TIG welding for root pass refers to tungsten inert gas welding – that’s right!
I think I have seen all three: TIG welding, MIG welding, and submerged arc welding.
