Let’s discuss: in a steam pressure reduction system, when should control valves be used and when should pressure reduction valves be used? Can a pressure regulator also be used when the flow rate of the gas supply is unstable? In terms of price, which one is more cost-effective? Thank you for the help
We use control valves for steam pressure reduction in our workshop.
I don’t use pressure relief valves very often in my designs. In a plant’s low- and medium-pressure system, there is no steam source and the demand is low; therefore, high-pressure steam is used after being reduced in pressure via a pressure reducing valve, with the pressure remaining constant before and after the valve.
Both methods can be used. The pressure relief valve is a bit more expensive, but it’s more convenient! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Superheated steam is usually treated with temperature and pressure reduction devices; this allows an increase in the amount of steam produced – approximately 80 cubic meters of natural gas per ton of steam, resulting in good recovery rates. Steam regulated by control valves can also be used, but the flow rate remains unchanged as it was before; moreover, a too high flow rate can cause erosion of the valve element. I have one such valve – one that changes the flow rate from 100 to 25 – and its valve element suffered severe erosion, so I switched to a temperature and pressure reduction device instead
It’s better to use a self-acting control valve, as it provides more stable pressure. With a pressure reducing valve, overpressure can occur when the flow rate after the valve is very low, which in turn triggers the safety valve to activate
Regulating valves are commonly used, as they automatically adjust the opening degree of the valve based on pressure.
Are you using a self-acting control valve? Should it be a single control valve, or should it form a control loop with a pressure transmitter?
In steam pressure reduction systems, control valves are used when the adjustment range is small, while pressure reduction valves are used when a lower pressure is required. Can a pressure regulator also be used when the flow rate of the gas supply is unstable? However, automatic regulation must be included. In terms of price, control valves are more cost-effective.
