Does the rotor of a rotameter rotate?
Rotary flow meters do not require the rotor to rotate or not rotate. Whether the rotor rotates or not has little to do with the measurement. However, an object located in the middle of a flow, unless it has absolutely balanced mass and perfectly symmetrical shape, will always experience forces due to the action of the fluid that cause changes in its state; if the object’s mass is not sufficient, it will roll or rotate.
We have some that rotate and some that don’t at the site; it doesn’t matter anyway. Only those with threads will rotate, and that has no impact on the measurements

It must be rotating; it’s just a matter of the rotation speed. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be called a rotameter. I’ve seen them spin in person
It depends on how you look at it; from the perspective of work pressure, rotation does not occur. In actual operation, the float moves up and down due to the flow velocity and buoyancy, and it is normal for rotation to take place during this movement.
The rotor floats up and down. The measurement of flow rate is accomplished by a transmitter inside the indicator, which detects changes in the force exerted by the float through coupled magnets. When the medium under test flows through the measuring tube, the float reaches a dynamic equilibrium between gravity, buoyancy, and the thrust exerted on it by the flow velocity of the fluid; as a result, it remains relatively stationary at a certain position. This position changes depending on the area of the annular space between the float and the conical tube, as well as the fluid flow velocity, and the position of the float corresponds to the respective flow rate.
As I understand it, the rotor is just a metal bead – too small to be seen, and anyway, it doesn’t matter whether it rotates or not
I really haven’t observed it, but if it doesn’t rotate, then it wouldn’t live up to its name.
