Since the 1980s, the development of equipment for producing section steel has been relatively slow compared to that of strip rolling mills. Although significant improvements have been made to mill structures, such as the development of cantilever CL mills, high-stiffness HS mills with short stress paths, and universal mills with short stress paths, no entirely new types of steel bar mills have been created, and the increase in rolling speed has also been limited. So today, we will analyze for you that the main developments in steel profile production equipment lie in: (1) direct hot charging of continuous casting billets ; (2) Application of near-net-shape continuous cast billets ; (3) Development of flexible rolling equipment: A variety of new steel bar rolling mills with flexible rolling capabilities have been put into operation, and new flexible rolling technologies such as free-size rolling of H-beams, holeless rolling in the stretching pass, and multi-roller universal hole rolling have been developed ; (4) The promotion and application of split rolling technology, with the widespread use of split rollers and split wheel equipment, offers advantages such as increased production volume, reduced number of rolling passes, lower energy consumption, and less wear on rollers ; (5) Precision rolling equipment with tight tolerances, whose product tolerance ranges can be controlled at 1/4 to 1/10 of the international standard values. It features small roller diameters, short roller bodies, and single-pass rollers; it is a high-stiffness, compact rolling mill in which 2 to 3 pass shapes are arranged alternately in a horizontal and vertical pattern, along with low reduction rates – these are the basic characteristics of such precision rolling equipment ; (6) The application of low-temperature rolling, temperature-controlled rolling, and online heat treatment can result in a 20% improvement in overall efficiency, **as well as enhanced properties of the steel ; (7) Modern finishing equipment, which enables continuous and automated processing, such as stepped rack cold beds, continuous cross-cutting (CCL) units, and single-bar straightening equipment with a cantilever structure ; (8) Equipment condition diagnosis technology, which monitors the operational status of equipment to enable timely maintenance.
