What are the selection principles for encoders and proximity switches used to monitor rotating equipment? What are the characteristics of each?

Encoders and proximity switches can both be used to detect position in rotating equipment; the main difference lies in the device’s response frequency or speed. Encoders offer a higher detection frequency but at a higher cost, while proximity switches have a lower frequency compared to encoders and are also much cheaper. The choice depends on the device’s speed and the requirements regarding installation space.
