Steel wire ropes are a commonly used lifting accessory in cranes; they can be used as slings or as cables. Ultimately, the material of a wire rope depends mainly on the material of the steel wires used; therefore, it is quite common for phosphated wire ropes, made from steel wires that have been phosphated, to be used in cranes. What advantages can cranes gain by using phosphated steel wire ropes compared to ordinary crane wire ropes? Technicians state that, as a patented product of a new invention, phosphated wire ropes for cranes offer superior performance in terms of wear resistance and service life compared to ordinary crane wire ropes such as plain wire ropes. It is understood that phosphated steel wires used in cranes, due to the wear-resistant phosphating treatment applied to the wires, have a phosphating coating on their surface that significantly enhances their ability to retain lubricant, thereby improving the wires’ wear resistance and corrosion resistance. In the current processes for manufacturing phosphated steel wires used in cranes, there are two options for thick-layer phosphating: manganese-based phosphating and zinc-manganese-based phosphating. As for controlling the quality of the phosphating layer on the surface of these wires, the standard technical requirement is 15–30 g/㎡, with an appropriate phosphating temperature of 90–95°C. When turning phosphated steel wires into phosphated steel wire ropes for cranes, the method of drawing ordinary steel wires and then twisting them to form ropes is no longer used; instead, the phosphated steel wires are directly twisted into ropes without any drawing process.
