To our sister companies: Do you repair the jaw crushers used for calcium carbide crushing in-house, or send them back to the manufacturer for repair? How long is the general maintenance cycle? Do crushers have a high failure rate?
What are the types of failures that can occur in crushers? Adjusting the distance between the jaw plates and tightening the foot bolts are the most common issues. Another common problem is the need for oiling or belt replacement; other failures are rare, unless the moving jaw plate is damaged, in which case it is necessary to obtain spare parts from the manufacturer.
Our crushers have a very low failure rate; with proper routine maintenance, major repairs are rarely needed. I’ve been using it for many years; I’ve repaired it myself all along. As long as the preparation work is done properly, the maintenance time should not be too long.

The bearing is stuck; take it off to see what’s causing the issue How is the moving jaw plate assembly damaged? Only by identifying the cause can an analysis be carried out; if that’s not possible, consult the manufacturer’s technical staff to see if there are any issues with the usage.
The common cause of bearing seizure is a problem with the installation of the bearings in the equipment; too little clearance is used during installation, which results in the loss of that clearance as the machine operates and generates heat, eventually leading to seizure. Another possible reason is a large coaxiality error in the bearing holes of the crusher itself, which causes severe uneven loading during operation, and the bearings can easily get damaged after some time, leading to seizure.
