I moved to a different city for work, so I’ve been busy looking for a place to live these past two days. . The process of finding a house is really tough; I have to complain about it. . . I found so-called private rental listings at marketplaces and on 58.com; when I called them, they assured me that they were not agents but sublandlords. . I never expected that after being away for a while, even the definition of a sublandlord has changed. . . Previously, sublandlords were individuals who would rent the property outright from the original landlord, then increase the price and rent it out. . Now, the sub-landlord has actually become an individual agent. . There are all sorts of extra fees (agency fees, cleaning fees), not one less. . The most crucial thing is. . I can’t sign a contract with the landlord yet. . After making several calls with little hope, a few people came over and said they had houses for rent; only upon asking did I realize they were also so-called private agents. . . Later, I had no choice but to turn to a larger real estate agency and viewed a few houses. . The prices are all over 2000, and it’s still houses from the 1980s. . Some are secondary bedrooms, while others are partitioned off spaces. . I searched for two days, and in desperation, I had no choice but to rent it out for a short period. . I hope finding a house next time will go more smoothly. . .

I’ve been moving things around these past couple of days. The apartment I decided on for New Year’s Eve was also managed by an individual agent; it was a bare apartment that the agent decorated and divided into separate units before renting them out. I rented a large room for 1,600 yuan, and after negotiating, I managed to get it at 1,550 yuan. Well, the only thing that satisfies me is that I no longer have to share the apartment with anyone else. Before the New Year, everyone is busy buying things to take home for the holiday, so I spent my time on websites like 58.com and Zhaofang.com, looking at rental listings. After work, I would go to see the apartments in person. Usually, the pictures online made them seem great, but in reality, the apartments were quite poor in condition! The hardships involved in this situation are better left unmentioned. It was only on New Year’s Eve that a decision was made; there was no other choice but to do so before an agent returned to his hometown. The new house won’t be ready until 2018 – so when will we be able to stop renting? :L
