Problems with the pressure gauge process connection

I checked Ashcroft’s pressure gauge selection manual; under the section on process connection it says 1/2\" NPT(M), lower. I understand the size specified there, but what does \"lower\" mean? A beginner in using instruments, seeking advice!
In my understanding, the pressure gauge is installed radially with its connection port at the bottom.
I took a close look at the selection manual; it mentions lower, lower back, and center back – these are indeed the positions of the connectors. The person who replies fastest will have the best answer~
