At present, in the deep processing of coal tar, the methods used for extracting phenol from terphenyls or naphthalene oil are almost all based on alkaline washing. However, this results in a large amount of wastewater, which has negative effects on the environment. I propose that we discuss together whether there are any methods to extract phenol without using alkaline washing
Dehydration is necessary only when phenols are present; otherwise, if the phenol content is low, dehydration is not required. There is no good separation method available at present
