To save money and as there wasn’t much wastewater, only 20 tons of sludge were added to the 9,000-cubic-meter tank. The COD level of the influent water is 20–40, while the ammonia nitrogen level is 10–201. The sludge is allowed to develop gradually on its own, without any additional nutrients; moreover, the fans are not turned off at night ； 2. After a week of incubation, there was slight growth in the sludge ； 3. Recently, white, transparent insects about 1 mm in size, similar to fleas, have appeared in the biochemical tank, and there have been a large number of small bubbles in the water. This is the first time I’m culturing sludge, and I hope everyone can offer some valuable suggestions.
How much organic matter (i.e., carbon source) is needed to produce that amount of sludge (i.e., microorganisms)? With such low COD levels, it’s impossible to cultivate sludge. The increase in sludge volume you mentioned might be due to an increase in SV30 as a result of the loose sludge; in reality, MLSS should decrease. Carbon source (or high-concentration wastewater) and TP should be replenished as soon as possible; otherwise, it will be impossible to cultivate bacteria.
