Consider changing the heating medium for several reboilers in the gasoline hydrogenation unit from steam to heat transfer oil. The heat transfer oil circulation rate has now been calculated based on the steam consumption, but the efficiency of the heat exchanger has not been taken into account. It’s a bit confusing regarding heat exchange efficiency: if existing heat exchangers are still used, does the efficiency change when using heat transfer oil for heating compared to steam? Also, does the change in heating medium require any additional requirements regarding the material of the heat exchanger and other aspects? I appreciate your advice
The heat transfer coefficient will definitely change; as for by how much, it can only be determined through calculations based on the equipment’s design.
I’m not sure what type of device it is; if it’s a horizontal U-tube, it’s relatively simple. If the heat transfer coefficient is insufficient, the circulation rate can be increased ； If it is not convenient to increase the circulation rate, the inlet temperature can also be raised to increase the heat transfer temperature difference ； If it is a fixed tube sheet, then the issue of thermal stress must be taken into consideration.
