When the sulfur production furnace is ignited, industrial air is supplied both in front of the furnace and at the viewing ports. As is well known, industrial air is used to protect the burners and those viewing ports. When is this industrial air turned on, and why? Should the industrial air be kept running after acidic gases are introduced?
The first reason is to prevent sulfur from condensing here; therefore, it must be turned on before the acidic gases are introduced; The second purpose is to prevent the outlet pipe from overheating; therefore, it should be turned on when the temperature reaches a certain level ; So it should be turned on during the process of heating the gas with the system. There are also possibilities such as water vapor condensation and acidic water corrosion, etc.
It would be best to replace the protective air with nitrogen. Our process includes this: at the start of operation, air is fed into the system. As a result, an interlock in the sulfur production furnace activated, and air continued to be supplied for protection purposes; this caused a temperature rise in the converter. Thanks to accurate judgment, a timely switch was made, which prevented any adverse effects. After that, nitrogen was used as the feed gas.
Nitrogen is expensive, so we are required to be cautious and not use it indiscriminately; normally air is used, and nitrogen is switched in only when the furnace is shut down for an extended period of time.
