While examining the piping for a project, I noticed that the designer had placed the orifice flow meter in a duct at +3.7m, a location that no one would ever go to. Is this the correct way to place it? There is no platform on the pipe rack; is a ladder sufficient for regular use? I checked a book on piping; it seems there are no specific requirements regarding the installation height of orifice flow meters. I hope friends with rich engineering experience can offer guidance! There are no specifications regarding the installation height of orifice plates; generally, they are installed along the pipeline to be measured, with pressure transfer pipes used to connect them from the ground level to the flow transmitter. The primary valve of the orifice plate is rarely operated; a platform or a temporary ladder can be used.

The installation of orifice plate flow meters requires straight pipe sections, but there are no requirements regarding the installation height. Regarding design and installation, they are not responsible for maintenance or use; it doesn’t matter to them whether it’s convenient in the future or not. Once the installation is complete, that’s it. This kind of situation occurs very often and has become a common practice. If those in charge of installation and design were also responsible for maintenance, they wouldn’t be so careless...
We have this situation on site as well. When needed, we contact someone to set up a scaffold instead of using a ladder.
Actually, there is no right or wrong here; it might be a vent line. I wonder if there are valves upstream and downstream of the orifice plate? If possible, it’s best to set up a platform.
Sometimes it’s also difficult to find straight sections, that’s why they’re placed in locations where it’s hard to work on~~ Hehe
