Ultrasonic flowmeters can generally operate properly for a long time after installation without any maintenance, but later on maintenance and regular checks are required. Not being able to receive a signal or having a weak signal are minor issues. So it’s not surprising if this occurs; by following the steps below carefully, you can resolve it easily. 1. First, confirm whether the pipe is filled with fluid. 2. Ultrasonic flowmeters can be used on metal pipes with severe internal scaling by applying impact to dislodge the scaled areas or create cracks; however, it should be noted that this method may sometimes do no good for ultrasonic wave transmission, as gaps may form between the scale and the inner wall. 3. Carefully select the dense part of the pipe, polish it thoroughly until it is shiny, apply an adequate amount of coupling agent, and then install the probe. 4. If the pipe is too close to the wall, it is possible to install the probe on the diameter of the pipe at an inclined angle, rather than necessarily on the horizontal diameter of the pipe; the Z-method should be used for installing the probe. 5. Carefully move each probe slowly near the installation site to locate the point with the strongest signal, in order to avoid missing the installation location where a stronger signal can be received due to scaling on the inner wall of the pipe or local deformation of the pipe, which might cause the ultrasonic beam to reflect away from the intended area.
