We plan to use a 1-inch (25 mm) Coriolis flow meter to measure the density of liquids, with a flow rate ranging from 2 m3/h to 5 m3/h. I was wondering if brands such as HighSense, E+H, and others have suitable products for measuring such low flow rates?
All the major brands are available; I’ve used mass flow meters with a capacity of 1/2 hundred kilograms, and the flow range works fine.
Measuring density has nothing to do with flow rate, but will the solid content in your medium cause sedimentation? If possible, it is not suitable for horizontal installation; it should be installed vertically. If horizontal installation is necessary, the flow rate must be increased.
Use the HighAcc one; it has a wider flow range.
Why use a mass flow meter to measure density? Aren’t there specialized density meters available? Also, what is the approximate density, and for what type of medium?
Sure, there’s no problem at all; a mass flow meter has nothing to do with velocity. As long as it is installed properly and the parameters are correct, there will be no issues with the full pipe. It’s Rosemont’s, right!
It is recommended to contact the manufacturer directly. Foreign brands include Emerson and E+H, among many others; domestic manufacturers also offer products of very good quality nowadays. In your operating conditions, the flow rate is too low, which results in large measurement errors; it is recommended to choose an even smaller diameter. The exact amount still requires contacting the manufacturer to obtain a calculation sheet.

Have you calculated the flow rate? In the chemical industry, for relatively hazardous fluids, pipeline design flow rates are kept very conservative; values below 0.5 m/s are quite common. The mass flow meters we use currently are 1-inch in size and are used to measure methanol, with a measurement capacity of 150 L/H. Yokogawa’s dual-frequency excitation electromagnetic flow meters can achieve a measurement capacity of around 130 L/H
There’s no problem with this at all; the minimum flow rate can also be guaranteed with an accuracy of 1 m3/h. Just ask the manufacturer for the calculation sheet – it will be clear once you take a look.
This should be something that any manufacturer can do; there’s no need, as some netizens say, to use Emerson products for it.
