During this year’s anti-freezing measures, it was found that there was water accumulated inside the tank. After pumping out the water, the heating coils were put into operation (the amount of sulfur in the tank exceeded the capacity of the heating coils). Over the past week, however, no melting of sulfur occurred; nor did any water appear. Only steam was emanating from the tank. It is suspected that there might be a leak in the heating coils, but there should still be water present. Fellow netizens, can you help me figure out what’s going on?
The water inlet valve is covered with felt, but no desulfurization occurs at the manual valve behind the steam trap; is it possible that the temperature of the heating coil is not high enough? Oh, I’ll check to see if sulfurization is occurring at the water supply unit
If there is water and sulfur in the liquid sulfur tank, the heating coils at the water surface suffer severe corrosion. It is said that when Sichuan Petrochemical started operations, a sulfur testing and granulation machine was put into use in the liquid sulfur tank in advance. The next day, it rained and water entered the tank; it was then discovered that the heating coils (made of stainless steel) in the tank had thinned out and broken at the parts exposed above the water surface.
Let’s add the temperature for heat tracing first and see. Is there a lot of water stored? If it’s not much, you can also consider whether there is a leak in the connection pipes; it’s not necessarily the coil itself. We have only seen a leak in the jacket heating of the extractor once. Over time, there can also be a lot of water.
It’s possible that sulfur has entered the steam pipes through the leaks, causing blockages or a very low steam flow. . .
Check the heat-traced trap every half hour; if it is unable to dissolve sulfur. The heat tracing condensate will then be discharged on-site; it should melt within a day or two.
