When using a orifice plate flow meter to measure steam, temperature and pressure compensation is required. Can the pressure on the positive side of the differential pressure transmitter of the throttling element be used for pressure compensation? In other words, the pressure tap of the pressure transmitter used for pressure compensation is located on the high-pressure side of the differential pressure transmitter, rather than on the process pipeline in front of the orifice plate.
As long as there is no leakage, it is theoretically possible, but it cannot be installed in this way as there are many potential problems. The pressure difference of differential pressure transmitters is very small, and fluctuations caused by pressure measurements as well as leaks at the connections can all affect the accuracy of the measurements.
Generally, it is not possible; pressure is very sensitive to straight sections of pipe, and pressure sampling is usually done after the straight section of the flow meter
