How long can a PTFE gasket last? Does it have an expiration date? Or what is the application cycle?
It can be used for a decade without being removed after sealing. .
This question is similar to that of how long a person can live; it depends on the specific conditions, and it’s meaningless to discuss lifespan in isolation.
The lifespan of PTFE gaskets is related to the number of times they are removed and reinstalled; we replace them after 2-3 such cycles, as their cold-flow property means that they cannot provide an effective seal once deformed.
It’s hard to say really; when it’s used for sealing valves, it’s not usually taken apart that often. But the boss is worried about how long it will last. After all, this also comes at a cost

The cost of sealing is far too low compared to the consequences of leaks.
