After wastewater treatment in my company, the chloride level is above 1000, while the COD is around 150. The water is used as circulating water, and there are basically no stainless steel devices used; everything is made of carbon steel. The main equipment includes pumps, heat exchangers, etc. What is the effect of this water on the corrosion of carbon steel equipment?
Chloride ions should have little effect on carbon steel, right?
Chloride ions are corrosive to carbon steel, so anti-corrosion treatment can be applied inside the pipes.
Regarding the corrosion of carbon steel by chloride ions, Baidu can be a useful resource, as there are many articles on this topic; corrosion does indeed occur. Stainless steel is not immune to chloride ions either, so internal anti-corrosion measures should be taken, such as using polymer coatings for protection against corrosion!
Chloride ions can cause pitting, and in severe cases, perforation. Internal anti-corrosion treatment is necessary.
Chloride ions are deadly to stainless steel, but seem to have less impact on carbon steel. But I’m worried – if the company reduces the chloride level, it will incur high costs, and using it directly poses a risk of corroding the equipment. So I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions; have there been similar situations?
Internal anti-corrosion treatment can definitely be carried out, section by section and for each piece of equipment. For example, pumps can be equipped with ceramic anti-corrosion coatings to prevent cavitation and reduce energy consumption; heat exchangers can use high-performance polymer single-layer coating systems…… You can send detailed equipment specifications via private message so that a comprehensive protection plan can be developed!

It is used as circulating water throughout the plant; the temperature varies, so let’s consider what would happen at high temperatures
For chloride ion corrosion protection, choose polyaniline nano-corrosion-resistant coating
