Which salt or base has the least corrosive effect on cast iron and 304?

I bought a pump made of cast iron; pure water to which sodium sulfate was added was used. After some time, the water inside the pipes turned slightly yellow. The other parts of the system are made of 304 stainless steel or PPR pipes, so I guess the yellowing is caused by the pump. I want to try a different type of salt or alkali to see if the water will stay from turning yellow. I hope everyone will kindly share their insights!

Polymer plastic pumps can be used; they are resistant to corrosion and not expensive.
