Can’t the alarms in SIS be seen on the DCS?

Can’t the alarms that go into SIS be seen on the DCS? I have a speed alarm here; it’s entered into SIS, but it’s not visible on the DCS. I’m not sure how this is handled, and there’s no such window on the engineer’s screen, while operators do have access to it. What’s going on here?
Is there communication between DCS and SIS?
