What is the impact of methanol in crude benzene on the hydrogenation process of crude benzene? After using crude benzene as the feedstock for benzene hydrogenation, the sulfur content in the hydrogenated oil was 500 ppm; the temperature difference in the reactor decreased, and the symptoms were very similar to those caused by water presence, with the methane content in the recycle gas rising to 50%. Meanwhile, the xylene content in the crude benzene feedstock is 15% (the normal level being 3%); did methanol affect the hydrogenation reaction or did a dealkylation reaction occur? It is generally required that crude benzene should be free of methanol, but nowadays there is also an increased amount of crude benzene produced using low-temperature methanol processes; therefore it is necessary to control the level of methanol in crude benzene, keeping it below 0.2% in general； Reason: 1. Methanol reacts preferentially with hydrogen to form methane, increasing hydrogen consumption and making it uneconomical ； 2. The reaction is intense, resulting in a significant temperature rise, which makes operation inconvenient. 3. From an economic perspective, the yield is low.
