Why is methanol removed by washing in the alkylation reaction, and what are the consequences?
Methanol is an acid consumer in alkylation reactions and affects the quality of the alkylated oil. The washing method can effectively reduce the methanol content to PPM levels
The alkylation raw materials mentioned by the poster contain methanol; it may be a problem with the source of these raw materials. If there is light hydrocarbon produced by MTBE units, or light hydrocarbon derived from coal-to-oil and coal-to-olefins processes, special attention must be paid to methanol.
