A drum-shaped feeder, with spiral steel plates inside. The flanges here have also leaked; the bolts need to be tightened properly. It is recommended to add a spring washer.

Is it the packing that’s leaking? It leaks even when only clean water is flowing; adding coal helps to seal it up a bit
The coal reversal in the drum must be caused by a damaged swirl plate inside the drum; there’s a chance to replace that swirl plate! There is no good solution; adding asbestos gaskets at the joint between the inlet pipe and the drum ensures sealing and prevents backflow. The inlet pipe can be inserted deeper into the drum!
