Regarding the long-term issues associated with flue gas exhaust fans, vibration and high vibration levels are generally caused by scaling on the fans. Such vibrations are primarily due to rotor imbalance, which can be of three types: initial imbalance, progressive imbalance, or sudden imbalance. Initial imbalance arises from problems during the installation and commissioning of the fan; progressive imbalance requires assessment based on the performance of the regeneration and flue gas systems, such as signs of burning, the separation efficiency of the cyclone, the amount and particle size distribution of fine powder in the flue gas sampled by the triple cyclone, the pressure drop across the triple cyclone, the quality and quantity of cooling steam used to cool the fan’s rotor, as well as wear on the fan blades. Sudden imbalances are determined by checking whether the instruments are functioning properly and by considering factors such as production fluctuations.
