I plan to carry out maintenance on my catalytic unit after the Spring Festival, and my superiors require that the stabilization system be maintained without withdrawing oil or performing purging and replacement operations. The maintenance work includes replacing the tube bundles of two of the four water-cooled compressed rich gas coolers, as well as the inlet and outlet gate valves of the feed pumps in the two desorption towers. Those whose catalytic downtime is a bit longer – does everyone know what this means? The moment the blind flange is installed is also when air enters; once the air mixes with oil and gas, what happens when it comes into contact with the deposited iron sulfide? It’s scary just to think about it! My little heart can’t take it, but the higher-ups are firm in their decision and won’t engage in dialogue. Knowing there are dangers ahead, I still choose to go forward anyway – please wake me up!
This post was last edited by chengkang on 2016-1-22 08:40. Proper local purging, displacement, and isolation are essential. Other relevant measures are in place; safety first! If complete isolation cannot be guaranteed, do not take the risk of carrying out work!
Steam purging should be carried out at the areas that need maintenance; Those of you in charge of safety should be able to coordinate well with the workshop.
The entry of a small amount of air is not a major problem. The feed pump for the distillation column has control valves and heat exchangers at its outlet; by closing several of these valves and installing blind flanges near them, it’s fine even if a small amount of air gets in. The heat exchanger tubes that need to be replaced should be purged after the inlet and outlet valves are closed, followed by the installation of blind flanges before proceeding with further operations. This process requires coordination among the workshop’s process engineers, safety officers, and equipment specialists to develop an appropriate plan before implementation

The workshop can issue a statement detailing the situation on site; have the person who was assigned the task sign it, to see if they dare to take responsibility. .
I am currently in charge of the management of equipment in the stabilization section and workshops. I have worked as an operator in the stabilization area for 8 years, so I have a good understanding of it. During maintenance, normal purging and displacement procedures can still lead to spontaneous combustion of iron sulfide when the compressed rich gas cooler is disassembled. Moreover, this time we can only use temporary steam and water pipes for purging and displacement, which makes the task more difficult and increases the risk; if anything goes wrong, it could mean my job is at stake. I’ve been very conflicted during this time; when the moment comes, I’ll have to do my best to clean everything thoroughly and install proper blind flanges, then take the risk with trepidation! We are a private company, and any major decisions are made by the executive in charge of production; the workshop has little say and can only obey orders. If anything goes wrong at any stage during implementation, it will have serious consequences! I'm scared! :funk:
