Although the cost is low, the performance of the paint is limited; alkyd paint requires repair and repainting after 2–3 years of use. Epoxy primer paired with acrylic polyurethane topcoat. This paint set belongs to a higher-end category; it provides the guardrails with excellent corrosion resistance as well as outstanding decorative properties. The epoxy primer offers strong adhesion and possesses anti-corrosion and rust-preventing properties. The acrylic polyurethane paint has attractive colors, good gloss, high fullness, and excellent resistance to ultraviolet rays, acids, and alkalis as well as water resistance; it can be used for fencing coatings for around 8-10 years. Epoxy zinc-rich primer paired with fluorocarbon topcoat. Fluorocarbon paint is a high-performance anti-corrosion coating that, when used for coating guardrails, provides long-term corrosion protection. Epoxy zinc-rich primers are widely used in industrial anti-corrosion applications. They contain zinc powder, which provides cathodic protection; they have strong adhesion. Fluorocarbon topcoats come in a variety of colors, are resistant to aging and acids and alkalis, and possess unique self-cleaning properties that make it very easy to clean guardrails. These primers can ensure anti-corrosion protection for guardrails for over 15 years. Furthermore, as people pay increasing attention to health and environmental issues, water-based paints have come into focus; therefore, for projects that place a high emphasis on environmental protection, water-based paints can be used for coating. Examples include water-based alkyd paints, water-based acrylic polyurethane paints, water-based epoxy primers, water-based fluorocarbon paints, water-based zinc-rich epoxy primers, etc. During the painting process, no volatile solvents are released, and there is no irritating odor.
