How to wire for data transmission when the distance is over 500 meters on-site

This post was last edited by boofuu@live.com on 2016-1-28 at 13:41. There is a measurement device on site that uses RJ45 Ethernet interfaces, and it is located 500 meters away from the host computer. I would like to know how to arrange the wiring for this setup. Are there any other solutions besides installing a switch for 100 meters of network cable or using fiber optic transmission? Thank you

No fiber optic is needed; with the right selection of communication cables, the distance can reach up to 1000 meters. If there is only one RJ45 device, then just one set of two optoelectronic conversion modules is sufficient; a switch is not needed
Electro-optical conversion is probably the best solution, as it offers the best cost-performance ratio. When using 485, it depends on the amount of data and the required response time. Find the height, please

The main concern is that optical communication involves high maintenance costs in industrial settings; fiber optic splicing is complicated, and it’s not as convenient as cable connections
