Dear Haihao friends, I would like to consult you regarding the methods for treating sulfur-containing exhaust gases using low-temperature methanol washing. The exhaust gas mainly contains CO2 (about 85%), N2 (about 8%), and H2S (about 7%). The primary goal is to remove H2S so that the exhaust gas can be discharged in compliance with regulations. I’m not very keen on going with the Klaus desulfurization method; it seems like too large an investment. There seems to be a method involving alkali solution absorption; I’m not sure if it’s suitable. It also appears that this method is rarely used on an industrial scale these days. If anyone knows more about it, please let me know!

Which company’s methanol washing process does the original poster use? The hydrogen sulfide content in exhaust gases is not expressed as a percentage; it is generally only a few PPM. It can’t be acidic gas, right?

Some concentration measures can be taken, such as returning the acidic gas to the stripping tower or subjecting it to a flash treatment before entering the thermal regeneration unit.
Do you mean going back to the stripping tower of the low-temperature methanol wash?
It’s the acidic gas produced by low-temperature methanol washing; I’ve forgotten which tower it is. The composition of our gasified gas is different from that of ordinary coal gasification or ammonia synthesis processes.

The treatment methods for acidic gas with an H2S content of 7% are, first, the Claus sulfur recovery technology, and second, the WSA sulfuric acid production technology. You must be referring to ammonia-based desulfurization. Currently, this method is primarily used for desulfurizing flue gas from boilers. Additionally, the exhaust gases from Claus sulfur recovery processes – where it is difficult to meet emission standards and significant additional investment is required – are also sent to ammonia-based desulfurization systems for use in boiler flue gas treatment.
