I used to work with PLCs, and now I’m working on a renovation project that requires adding functionality to the Allen-Bradley DCS system already in use by the client – in other words, adding features for displaying and controlling analog and digital signals. Well, I think I should complete the debugging of the equipment at the company first, and then install it on-site; in other words, it’s just a matter of connecting the PLC to the computer. If it’s a PLC, then it’s simple – just buy the PLC, power it up, and carry out the debugging. But it’s a DCS now, so a main control module needs to be purchased; debugging will be done at the company before going to the site. . I checked the SM201 control module; it seems impossible to find the manual on its official website either. Does this module have to be placed in Allen-Bradley’s own chassis in order to be debugged? It seems there are dedicated terminals and power ports; if I want to connect the SM201 control module to a computer, what are the simplest requirements? One more question: where can I find the user manual for the SM201 control module?
Also, I’m using the thermal power version 6.5.2, and the controller available in it doesn’t allow selection of sm201; only sm220 and sm221 can be chosen. What’s going on?
Hilscher’s 6.5.2 does not support the controller for SM201; SM201 requires software version 5.2.3
I also installed the MACS V5.2.4 software, which has a subroutine called “Device Configuration.” After spending a lot of time trying, I couldn’t find sm201; only things like sm411 were available
The field control station for device configuration is the main controller; it doesn’t seem to specify that it’s an SM201. The SM411 and similar models you mentioned are IO cards
It should be available in MACS V5.2.4l; maybe you didn’t look in the right place. Our on-site setup: MACS V5.2.4l + SM202 controller. Additionally, the SM201 must be installed inside the chassis, as its power supply and communication are handled through the circuits integrated in the chassis.

It seems that Hilscher systems don’t have any simulation capabilities; to use them, one needs controllers, chassis, cards, and switches. If it’s someone from Hilscher itself, they probably have these things

Then why not just go and ask Hilscher directly?
Plan it out first; in the end, you’ll have to consult Allen-Bradley’s customer service. It seems that using Allen-Bradley’s modules directly is very costly. It’s necessary to get in touch with the property owner as well – if they agree, it’s possible to transfer data monitoring functions to Allen-Bradley’s interface through OPC, which would help save money
