Our wastewater treatment plant has a regulating tank. Once, during a process of separating gasoline from water, the oily wastewater was discharged directly into this tank. Since gasoline floats on the surface, the lift pumps were unable to transfer the oil to the air flotation unit, which created an unsightly situation. When the safety officers saw this, they considered it a hazard and asked us to remove the gasoline from the tank; I was very puzzled by this. I think a regulating tank is just a collection tank for oily wastewater – does it really have to be that clean? So, how should oil spills be dealt with? . .

The correct approach is as follows: The oily wastewater should be pumped into an oil-water separator, which allows for some degree of separation; however, oil may still remain in the water, failing environmental standards. In such cases, it is necessary to consider using demulsifiers, followed by biological treatment. For the oil and gas from the processing process, consideration is given to sending it to a flare or an RTO; this is a project that has not yet been carried out and needs to be initiated!
What I’m considering now is to directly connect pipes to control the flow of air into the floating units, as well as for the recycling of solid waste
