The metal-graphite wound gasket of the primary drain valve for the waste heat boiler header (located near the boiler, with piping of 1 inch–1.2 inches diameter) is damaged. There is severe leakage and vapor; it must be replaced. Method: The furnace must be shut down to reduce temperature and pressure, and the water in the waste heat boiler must be drained before replacement can take place. Do anyone else have any good methods? Later, a friend told me that there is a device that can quickly freeze the water in the boiler’s blowdown pipe, eliminating the need to drain the water from the boiler and thus saving downtime. I’ve never heard of such a device. The water in the lower header of the water wall is in motion, and this approach isn’t reliable either. If a valve near the boiler’s flange starts leaking, apart from attempting to seal it under pressure, the only option is to shut down the boiler.
