Dear colleagues: I would like to ask you all – when the DCS system in your plant comes offline, what tasks do the personnel in charge of automated control instruments need to carry out? What other tasks need to be done when resuming driving for work? Do I need to do debugging when the system resumes operation? What do you do when many of the devices on site cannot be tuned?

After the maintenance work here, we need to start the machine. First, it is necessary to adjust the operation of the valves on site from the control room to ensure that they open and close properly. After that, relevant interlock tests are carried out; once it is confirmed that all these conditions are satisfactory, then everything is ready. If a large number of devices cannot be debugged, it is still advisable to start operation once the conditions for debugging are available; after all, each stop results in significant losses, and that’s about as much as I can suggest given my limited capabilities
Before the system shuts down, back up all data and shut it down according to the procedure. During shutdown, cleaning is the main task. Before starting the unit, the system is activated according to the established procedure; if no changes occur during this process, only the adjustment of control valves and the verification of interlocks are carried out, in conjunction with individual equipment tests and combined tests.
The tasks to be carried out during parking are relatively varied; these include planning the cleaning or replacement of instrument components, adjusting the instruments, filling or replacing lubricant. Other specialists may propose changes to certain parameters, and there may also be work related to debugging interlocks and similar systems. During the preparation phase for driving, the main tasks include adjusting the control valves, disabling interlocks, and putting the system into operation along with conducting tests. As for those that cannot be debugged, they should be debugged to perfection and meet the operational requirements before being put into use. This involves planning, organization, and coordination. The production processes prior to parking should be coordinated with the instrumentation team; it is necessary to determine when instrumentation specialists need to get involved, whether there is room for optimization, what conditions are required for the maintenance and calibration of instruments, and which personnel should be involved in evaluating the results of such calibration. Due to regional differences, the heating of instruments may be turned on or off during startup and shutdown. All of the above is based on personal experience; I hope it will be useful to you.
