Installation methods for storage tanks: There are two main methods for installing large vertical storage tank bodies – the upright installation method and the inverted installation method. The proper installation method involves using the bottom of the tank as the reference plane, with the tank wall panels being installed section by section, starting from the first section at the bottom. Inverted construction refers to using the bottom of the tank as the reference plane: first, the top ring wall plates and the tank roof are installed, after which the wall plates are assembled and welded from top to bottom in successive rings, alternatingly, until the bottom ring wall plates are installed. Most foreign construction companies use the normal installation method ; Domestic companies generally use the inverted method for dome storage tanks and the vertical method for floating roof storage tanks. 1. Installation method of vaulted storage tanks Vaulted storage tanks are the most common type of fixed-roof storage tanks, and the inverted installation method is widely used in China. In addition to being used for assembling certain specially structured vaulted storage tanks, the formal method is rarely employed in the construction of ordinary vertical vaulted storage tanks. In practical applications, there are various methods of inversion lifting, including central column lifting, air jacking, manual chain hoist lifting, electric chain hoist group lifting, and hydraulic lifting. Currently, the methods most commonly used are manual chain hoist lifting and electric chain hoist group lifting for inversion, while hydraulic lifting for inversion is being gradually adopted. 2. Installation method of floating roof tanks The installation of large floating roof tanks with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters or more is mainly carried out using the vertical installation method. Its advantages include the ability to make full use of large-scale lifting equipment, allowing for greater prefabrication depth; it is also easier to implement, which facilitates the adoption of automated welding techniques for such tanks. However, its disadvantages are the need for a large construction site, high technical complexity, numerous tasks that require working at heights, and associated safety risks. Construction companies also use the inverted construction method for large floating roof storage tanks of 20,000 cubic meters and below.
