What factors determine the thickness of insulation for chemical process pipelines? Is there a direct relationship between medium temperature, pipe diameter, outdoor air temperature, and wind force level? I searched online and also asked people involved in design work, but there is no specific standard; I’m not sure if this is true I would be very grateful if any expert could offer some constructive advice.
There are methods for calculating the thickness of the insulation layer. SH/T 3010 7.2 specifies the calculation method for the thickness of the insulation layer. It seems no one does it anymore; they all rely on past experience.
The approach is correct, but the first three criteria are outdated; it is recommended to update them!

Well, I don’t think there’s any need to worry too much about this issue; the material should be chosen based on the temperature of the medium. For temperatures ranging from room temperature up to 350°C, glass wool or rock wool enclosures can be used, as these two materials are relatively inexpensive – the cost is around 200 yuan per cubic meter for standard models. For temperatures above 350°C, aluminum silicate or composite silicate enclosures should be used, as these materials are more resistant to high temperatures; their price is approximately 400–500 yuan per cubic meter.
