Are there any connections between the plants for producing light gasoline etherification products, MTBE, and TAME? Is TAME available for sale as a product in China? What is its main use? Is it used separately to improve the octane rating of gasoline?
Some of the principles are understandable; the etherification of light gasoline results in the formation of MTBE and TAM. To be used as a component in blended gasoline, the etherified product of light gasoline must have its alcohol content and oxygen content properly controlled

In the case of MTBE, isobutylene and methanol in liquefied gas react under the action of a catalyst to produce certain products; in the case of TAME, isopentane and methanol in light gasoline form ether compounds through catalytic reaction. Both types of products have high octane numbers, and they are used as components in the formulation of high-octane gasoline. TAME is generally not sold on the market – it is mostly used within the same company for use in formulating high-octane gasoline. If it were to be sold directly, there would be strong demand as it is in short supply!
