How much expansion can a flue elbow accommodate? Are there any standards or formulas for this?

The amount of compensation that can be absorbed by the elbows in soda water pipelines can be determined through stress calculations or based on existing data; as for flues, how can it be determined whether they are capable of absorbing the expansion of straight pipes?
Personally, I think it is possible to use the smoke tubes of fire-tube boilers as a reference for calculations.
