There is a storage tank for liquid caustic soda (32% concentration) inside, made of concrete with FRP anti-corrosion coating; its dimensions are length*width*height = 3*4*2, and it has an open top. Question: Is it acceptable to store 32 alkali in an open container?
Won’t salt form on it then? Sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate.
I personally think it won’t work； 1. First of all, safety considerations should not allow it ； 2. Degradation due to reaction with CO2 in the air during open storage ；
There’s no major problem; the height might be a bit low. Add a fence and put up some warning signs! As long as the raw materials are not affected, it should be possible to store it.
Lye tends to crystallize at lower temperatures. Additionally, I would like to ask the original poster what to do in case of a leak using above-ground storage tanks – are there any dikes (the correct term is fire dikes) in place?
It is a semi-underground tank with a concrete structure; the interior is protected with FRP3 fabric and 4 layers of coating for corrosion resistance, and the liquid level is below +0.
There are signs at the site prohibiting climbing and warning of corrosion
