Hello everyone. I use strongly acidic and strongly alkaline resins in my mixed-bed system, and the drain valve at the bottom keeps leaking. I was wondering whether the absence of water in the resin would accelerate its degradation, especially during the hot summer months. Also, considering the issue of freezing in winter, should I drain the water from it during those months?
What about winter? Should it be released, as its volume expands when it freezes?
Firstly, it is best for the mixed-bed to operate without any bubbles, as bubbles can easily cause deviations in its operation. Additionally, if the regenerated resin comes into contact with air, the anion resin will absorb carbon dioxide from the air, which renders part of the anion resin ineffective and results in a reduced water production capacity per cycle of the mixed bed. Fix the bottom valve as soon as possible. Additionally, resins must never be frozen. In northern regions, when not in use during winter, proper insulation measures should be taken. As long as they are indoors and there is central heating, there is no problem – freezing usually does not occur. If they are outdoors and left unused for an extended period, appropriate precautions should be taken (soak them in saturated salt water for 4 hours, then drain the water before storing them).
