Why does a mass flow meter sometimes emit a humming sound when it is not in use?
The flow meter comes equipped with an electromagnetic driver; when power is applied, this driver vibrates. It is possible to check whether the sound produced by other mass flow meters is similar to this one, or if only this one emits such a vibrating sound
I’ve encountered this before; it’s probably because the pipe is empty – when it’s full, the sound disappears
The measurement principle of a mass flow meter is to determine the vibration frequency of the measuring tube; therefore, it is normal for there to be a humming sound, especially when there is a vent pipe, as the humming becomes louder in such cases
Go and look at the principle of the mass flow meter, and you’ll understand! You must be referring to a mass flow meter using the Coriolis force; the humming sound you hear is probably generated by the driver, and it is louder when the pipe is empty. The driver causes the measurement pipeline to vibrate; when a medium flows through it, the phase difference of the waveform is used to measure the quality of the medium. What you hear is the vibrating sound of the driver!
Although this issue has been resolved, I still would like to mention a few points: 1. This is a normal phenomenon; not only does there be a humming sound, but the device also continues to vibrate when touched by hand. This indicates that the flow meter is in a state of being powered and vibrating, and it doesn’t have any other meaning. As for the presence of air in the system, the device vibrates even when there is no air present. Of course, what the experts mentioned earlier is also correct, as the vibration amplitude is significantly greater when there is air present compared to when there isn’t. 2. If it is an imported flow meter, this part will basically function without any problems; in other words, vibration indicates normal operation. It’s hard to say the same for domestic flow meters.
It vibrates the same way while in use; it’s just that the volume of the vibration sound is different. Vibration is not a problem; as long as the parameters are normal, the flow meter is considered to be functioning properly
