I have a question: The vortex flow meters from Yokogawa used for measuring natural gas in pipelines are of DN100 size. If the flow direction of the medium changes at times, what impact does that have on the metering? (The cumulative flow amount might become inaccurate, while the instantaneous flow rate may not be greatly affected.) Whether it will damage the flow meter itself. Based on the principle of vortex flow meters, it should not work if the flow is in the reverse direction; but what will happen if the medium flows in the opposite direction?
Vortex flowmeters do not have the capability to measure reverse flow, as there are specific requirements regarding the installation direction of the vortex generator. If the medium flows in the reverse direction, the readings displayed on the vortex flow meter are unreliable. This is determined by the measurement principle of the vortex flow meter.
Yokogawa will carry out the measurement, and it will be done quickly; this is something that is encountered frequently in on-site maintenance – it’s real!
Based on the principle of vortex flow meters, measuring in the reverse direction results in incorrect readings; although a value may be displayed, it will likely differ significantly from the actual flow rate.
