For very long tower installations, hydrostatic testing is carried out horizontally in the factory. How is the pressure value determined in this case? Once the installation is transported to the site, vertical hydrostatic testing is performed; how is the pressure value determined then?
Generally, the design drawings specify the hydraulic test values for horizontal and vertical configurations; the difference between these values is due to the height difference between the horizontal and vertical positions, which in turn causes a difference in hydraulic pressure. When testing under hydraulic pressure, it is usual to place the pressure gauge at the highest point, and therefore the horizontal hydraulic pressure value must take this difference into account.
