Does a multi-pass heat exchanger include a double pass?

In typical multi-pass heat exchangers, the fluids in the pass streams are connected in series; such heat exchangers have only one tag number. This dual-pipeline system belongs to the category of multi-pipelines; it is not the same as the situation where more than three pipelines are required in ordinary digital systems. There are also cases where two or more tube banks of different media share one shell bank; such heat exchangers have multiple tag numbers depending on the flow pattern of the tube banks. From the perspective of the heat exchanger itself, it is considered a multi-tube bank heat exchanger, but from an engineering tagging standpoint, it appears to be a combination of multiple single-tube bank heat exchangers.
It should be more than 2 pipe banks, right? Isn’t a 2 pipe bank just a U-tube?
The two-pass system does not have to use U-tubes.
